1/28/2008 1:00:12 PM 2007 Hunting Season

Wow!!
I think I have seen it all after this year.
To start things off we drew almost 100% for our gun seasons. I have always overbooked to make sure we have enough hunters to survive. Well this year I got caught and had too many hunters in 1st Shotgun and in Muzzleloader season. We did make out alright but it was a little hectic at times. I wish the state of Iowa would just give us so many tags in exchange for being licensed and bonded. They do not want to even recognize that we exist.
We had an excellent bow season with several kills, opportunities and a few wounded. I think a good time was had by all. The new lodge was under construction and was completed just in time for shotgun season. I will try to get some picture of it taken and put up.
Then came 1st shotgun and the ice to start things off. We had a good season even though when everything melted there was no way to even get to some of the stands as the Chariton river was out of its banks, I had a hunter hang a stand and never get to hunt it because of the flooding. We did kill a stag this year (i guess thats what it was) still in velvet.
2nd Shotgun started with a bang as we killed the best deer of the year on opening morning. Then the real ice hit on Tuesday morning, this was the real deal I guess, as we lost all power for several days(8 at my house)and had to run off of generators, which would only provide lights and tv. We finished up the season killing a really nice nontypical.
As far as Muzzleloader season we had snow to begin with and a few moderately cold days. Then it decided to melt and the river went out again and stayed out for several days. Due to the warm up we had to try to drive deer in the mornings and stand hunt in the evenings, which worked well. We did not kill alot of deer but sure shot at a lot of nice ones and found sheds while doing it. We seen several deer with both sides gone already.
I am now getting ready to go to Harrisburg, to the only show we do at this time. It is a good one but a little long. We are in booth 2730 if you are coming to the show.

Since all members of my family now have cell phones. We can't see why we should be paying for a landline also. My cell is 641-344-3531.

Well the bar has been open for a couple of months now and seems to be doing real well. The cafe is all finished except for the kitchen. I think it will be done in a couple more weeks or so! Dad seems to be ready to pull his hair out at times.

They have made another arrest in the WoJo's arson case. The sherrif tells me there could be more to come. I guess they are all young. Too bad they had to burn the place as my grandfather built it in 1950.

One arrest has been made and more are pending in connection with a burglary and fire that gutted the inside of Wojo’s Restaurant and Lounge in Humeston.
Evan Donald Godrey, 18, Leon, was charged with first degree burglary following the execution of a search warrant at his mobile home on Tuesday, March 20.
According to Sheriff Keith Davis, Godfrey and two other people were taken into custody and questioned. Charges were filed on Godfrey while the other two were released.
However, on Friday, Davis said more arrests would follow as soon as the warrants could be obtained.
During the search, officers from Wayne County, Decatur County and the City of Leon recoverd several items that had been stolen during the burglary that preceded the fire at Wojo’s.
The first degree burglary charge includes arson and is a Class B felony, which carries a heavier sentence than a charge of arson, which is a Class C felony.
“It’s 25 years versus 10 years for arson,” said Davis.
Godfrey appeared before the magistrate the following day and is being held in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of $32,500 bond.
