Hawkeye Whitetails, in Humeston, Iowa, offers excellent hunting for trophy Whitetail Deer. We own and lease 8,000+ acres of prime deer habitat in south central Iowa. Hawkeye Whitetails has been in business since 1997 as trophy Whitetail deer hunting outfitters and turkey hunting outfitters.
130 Inch Minimum.
These
areas have not been archery hunted very hard in the past. Due to this fact, Pope & Young
bucks abound. We have a large number of big bucks scoring in the 120
to 150 class. Boone & Crockett bucks exist here as well. Stand
hunting is the primary method of bow hunting this area. Tree stands and ground
blinds are provided but you are welcome to bring your own tree stand if you
desire to do so - we want you to be comfortable. Rattling
and calling can be fun and very effective during the pre-rut and the rut. The
peak of the rut should occur around November 15 - plus or minus a week. The
use of decoys is allowed in Iowa if you wish to employ this method (as
long as the decoy has no moving parts). We do
NOT recommend expandable broad heads for archery hunting.
This
post-rut hunting can be very productive for trophy Whitetail deer. Shotguns
or muzzle loaders can be used during this season.
You must use rifled slugs in shotguns, and scopes
are allowed. While Iowa tradition says to drive
deer during this season, we will mainly stand or
still-hunt. The bigger bucks will usually escape a poorly executed deer
drive.
This late season hunt occurs after the shotgun seasons and can be a wonderful hunt as deer return to a routine. Stand and still - hunting are again the primary techniques used during this period. A lot of nice bucks can be intercepted between bedding and feeding areas. Pistols shooting a straight-walled case, of .357 and larger, can also be used during this season. Snow will usually be present during this hunt.
Iowa is a lottery draw state with applications due the first part of May. Cost is $420.00 for the license. We have a warm and comfortable house located in Humeston, Iowa. We also have a bunkhouse directly behind the house. All hunting is within a 20-minute drive of the house.
Our hunting guides are friendly, well respected members
of our community that excel in the hunting field.
We have personally hunted with them for many years and know you will
not be disappointed. Although the majority of our hunts are semi - guided,
our guides will personally see that you are properly
oriented with your hunting area. They will also
be available to fully guide you, for a fee of $50.00 per day extra.
We will try to accommodate everyone's needs to book a hunt other than those listed above. References are available upon request. A 50% deposit is required at booking to lock in the dates you want. If you are not drawn for your hunt your deposit will be transferred to the next season. Refunds will not be made on early departures from the hunt. Bookings are first come - first served.
We offer spring turkey hunts for the eastern species of bird, with the turkey numbers being excellent in this area. These birds are very large, most weighing above 22 lbs.
